PERSONAL TRAINER FAQs
To help you better understand the benefits of hiring a certified personal trainer, what to expect from a certified personal trainer, and how to choose the right trainer for you, we’ve answered the most frequently asked questions.
WHY SHOULD I HIRE A PERSONAL TRAINER?
At Operator Fitness hiring a personal trainer might seem like something that’s only accessible to the rich and famous, but it’s not! WE are affordable and work with our clients to provide cost effective options. There are good reasons to engage a certified personal trainer. Here’s just a few reasons to hire a certified personal trainer:
• Get a customized training plan: At Operator Fitness all our workout and nutrition plans are developed and designed specifically for you as an individual in order to help your attain your fitness goals. We NEVER use “cookie cutter” or fad workouts.
• Form check: Certified Personal trainers have studied how to properly perform exercises and will help make sure that you are exercising safely and with good form to reduce your risk of injury.
• Accountability: Knowing that a Certified Personal Trainer is waiting for you at the gym and that you’re paying for that time can be a great motivator to get to the gym and complete your workout. Our Certified Personal Trainers will also help to make sure you stay on track during your workout session so that you get the most out of your time in the gym.
• Push past plateaus: Certified Personal Trainers know how to effectively change the intensity of your workouts in a safe and structured manner in order to keep your training advancing. And, it’s a proven fact, you’re likely to push yourself a bit harder in the gym with a certified personal trainer than you might on your own!
WHAT DO PERSONAL TRAINERS DO?
The job of a certified personal trainer is to use their knowledge and expertise to help a trainee/athlete reach their health and fitness goals as efficiently, effectively, and as safely as possible.
When you first meet with a certified personal trainer their job is to assess where you’re starting, gather information about your overall health and lifestyle, and learn about your fitness goals..
HOW MANY TIMES A WEEK DO I NEED A PERSONAL TRAINER?
The current physical activity guidelines, set by the Centers For Disease Control, suggest 150 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity per week and muscle-strengthening activities on 2 or more days a week to build and strengthen all major muscle groups (CDC 2022). The number of times per week that you workout with a certified personal trainer will depend on your goals, your budget, and your schedule. At Operator Fitness we often use a “blended” technique of face to face personal training and virtual training to provide a cost effective service to our trainees/athletes.
CAN A PERSONAL TRAINER HELP ME REACH MY GOALS?
A certified personal trainer can work with you to develop a workout plan specifically designed to help you attain your goals. They can make sure that you’re working at the correct intensity, doing the right exercises with the proper form, and offer accountability and positive coaching to help you stay consistently on the right track during your fitness journey.
HOW DO I CHOOSE A PERSONAL TRAINER? WHAT SHOULD I LOOK FOR?
Here’s what you need to know when you’re looking to hire and work with a certified personal trainer:
• Credentials: A qualified and certified personal trainer will have a current accredited certification in personal training. You should also ask the certified personal trainer what type of continuing education they go through, and what their background is.
• Location: Certified personal trainers can work at home (yours or theirs), virtually, at a commercial gym, or even in a local park!
• Personality: You can’t always judge a book by its cover, as they say, but finding the right personality fit will matter when you choose your personal trainer. You should also find a certified personal trainer that you enjoy spending time with since it will make the experience during your workout and training much more rewarding and enjoyable. Do you need a cheerleader? Maybe you need a drill sergeant? You’ll get a feel for their personality when you meet the certified personal trainer.
• Niche: Some certified personal trainers will take on any client, but many personal trainers serve a training niche. For example, training with adults over the age of 65, women between the ages of 30-60, adults with goals to improve movement and mobility, populations with special needs, runners, etc.
