CALIFORNIA PEACE OFFICERS STANDARDS AND TRAINING PHYSICAL ABILITIES TEST
If you have failed, or are in fear of failing, the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training’s Physical Abilities Test (“PAT”) you’re not alone. Its not uncommon for candidates to fail on their first attempt, or to fail a component of test and be disqualified.
Operator Fitness provides three (3) PAT preparation packages:
Each of Operator Fitness’s PAT packages contains three (3) phases of training. Your overall physical fitness will assessed, you will build a solid foundation of physical strength and agility, and you will be trained on the specific events and components of the Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training’s Physical Abilities Test (“PAT”). Training will take place at a gym and a local PAT obstacle course. All training will be a hybrid of science based and evidence proven personal training methods and modalities as well as the requirements and standards set forth by the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training. All training will be administered by current or former California Peace Officers that are certified personal trainers.
Deciding to enter and undertake a career in California law enforcement is a monumental life choice. It can also be very stressful…. The hiring process is extremely competitive from the very start of your journey you must be better than the other candidates you are competing against in all areas of life, and that includes your physical fitness.
To be hired you must meet the minimum hiring standards such as age, education, and right to work in this Country and State. On top of that you must pass a written examination, an oral interview, a background investigation, a complete medical evaluation, and a thorough psychological evaluation.
Then on top of that each individual law enforcement agency can add on additional standards and examinations such as, drug screening, polygraph examination, and a PHYSICAL ABILITIES TEST.
The California Commission on Peace Officers Standards And Training only requires that a candidate pass a physical abilities test prior to graduation from the basic academy and at the conclusion of Learning Domain #32 – Lifetime Fitness.
Its both classroom instruction and physical training. It will be overseen by an academy instructor that is much like an Army Drill Sergeant!
You will discuss and learn the following topics:
You will more specifically learn the training principles of:
You will learn the components of a training program which are, warmup, training, and recovery.
You will learn the difference between acute and chronic injuries.
You will also become educated on proper nutrition.
You will also learn a fair amount on the topics of drug and alcohol abuse.
The physical aspects of Learning Domain #32 – Lifetime Fitness will consist of:
36 physical training sessions of a minimum of 60 minutes. These sessions must be at least two (2) times a week over the span of 10-14 weeks
